Youtube
YouTube with Safety Mode enabled is available for all staff. YouTube for Edu/Schools is available for students. Below are the requirements for YouTube:
1. YouTube is not available on the GCSGuest wireless network, only GCSD or a wired connection. The guest network doesn't require authentication or security so that network assumes a student is accessing it and sets the filtering accordingly.
2. YouTube must have its Safety Mode enabled. If you get a block message check the body of the message for instructions on how to enable this mode. Sometimes this mode is switched off by other programs.
Our filtering system needs to know who is accessing the network or the default filtering is used which is the most restrictive. If you connect to the wireless GCSD network you need to provide your username and password (which you are required to do when configuring that network). On a district-owned device connected with a wire you provide your username and password when logging in. Another way is before you start any web surfing you first access your district email with a browser (this is helpful with personal devices). Once the filter determines who is logging in it will adjust the filtering, in case of a staff member it will permit YouTube and other web sites to become unblocked but only when safe mode is enabled.
Please remember to preview any video completely and watch out for those video recommendations at the end, they can contain some fairly nasty images even with safe mode enabled.
